Illness Procedures:

As we head back into the cooler months, please take a moment to familiarize yourself again with our Illness Procedures, attached. We are not able to look after sick children, so please make sure you have your own procedures in place to cope if your child is sick or needs collecting early.

Have a great month

Centre Manager

Illness Procedures:

  1. In order to provide a quality environment for each child, it is essential that we minimise the risk of cross infection. We apply stringent health measures but also require that children are kept away. If a child seems unwell, signs may include but are not limited to the following:
    • Listless behaviour
    • Feels hot
    • Out of character behaviour
    • Develops rash
    • Vomiting / diarrhoea
    • Conjunctivitis
  2. Any child that has either vomiting or diarrhoea should be isolated and collected immediately.
  3. To reduce the incidence of person to person spread of a disease; No child who has diarrhoeal bowel motion and children who have vomited in the previous 24 hours will not be permitted to attend the Centre.
  4. All other children that appear unwell must be monitored regularly and any change of symptoms be documented until the parent or caregiver arrives.
  5. All staff are to be trained in recognizing Meningitis symptoms.
  6. If staff members are concerned about a child while at the Centre their temperature will be taken and parents / caregivers will be phoned to discuss symptoms, and if needed to collect their child. If applicable Pamol will be given after discussion with parents, if staff are unable to contact parents Pamol will be given provided consent has been given on Enrolment. Pamol will not be given to mask signs of illness, if Pamol is needed parents must collect children as soon as possible.
  7. If medical attention is deemed necessary parents will be contacted immediately. If we are unable to contact parents in an emergency, we will seek medical assistance as necessary. Details of the illness will be recorded in the Sickness / Accident Book. A copy of this will be given to the Parent on arrival or taken with the Enrolment Forms and Health information to the Medical Centre.
